Cherokee County Legacy Foundation Connecting donors who care with causes that matter.

The Cherokee County Legacy Foundation was formed in 2005 to coordinate and provide philanthropic support for community betterment projects in Cherokee County.  The Foundation is made up of community-minded individuals who have the ability to assess community needs, implement asset development, evaluate area grant applications, encourage partnerships and initiate activities to enhance Cherokee County.

The Cherokee County Legacy Foundation (CCLF) is a publicly supported, tax-exempt organization created by and for the people of Cherokee County, Iowa to invest the gifts received from individuals, families, corporations, private foundations, and governmental agencies. These gifts are carefully invested and the income from these endowed funds are used to make grants to public charities and governmental organizations that best meet the needs of Cherokee County. The Mission of the Cherokee County Legacy Foundation is to connect donors who care, with causes that matter, and to serve as a trusted resource for addressing issues that impact the quality of life in Cherokee County.

The Cherokee County Legacy Foundation is an affiliate of the Iowa Community Affiliate Network, a collaboration of the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation (GDMCF) and the Iowa Area Development Group Community Foundation, who have recognized the need for new avenues to encourage philanthropy throughout Iowa.

The Cherokee County Legacy Foundation receives gambling revenue. The fund is funded by .08 percent of the State's gambling revenues. At the end of each fiscal year, moneys in the Fund are transferred equally into separate county accounts within the funds. The only counties with these accounts are those that were not authorized to conduct gambling games during that fiscal year.

Grant amounts are dependent upon the allocation of funds available to the Legacy Foundation each fiscal year and evaluated and prioritized based on the potential benefit, the number of Cherokee County residents impacted, and the merit of the project for meeting community needs.
